At Stadler, we have just unveiled our cutting-edge Class 99 Locomotive and we are looking for passionate candidates to be part of our team shaping the future of sustainable rail transport. We are looking to recruit a System Technician to join the Production team at our Leicester Depot, reporting to the Head of SRS UK in Leicester.

Your Tasks and Responsibilities

About the Role:
In this exciting position, you will be at the centre of our operations, providing essential technical and production knowledge that drives our business forward. You'll ensure our rail freight services run smoothly and on time while maintaining industry leading performance standards. Every day will bring new challenges and opportunities for you to make an impact in a fast-paced, rewarding environment.

Key Responsibilities:
•Provide detailed technical and production support by reporting the current status across the business, in particular in production and performance functions, ensuring the business always has an accurate overview and meets contractual levels of performance.
•Support the business in ensuring trains are provided as and when necessary, at all times meeting all criteria in the areas of product and people safety, reliability, environment and train presentation (interior & exterior). Ensuring industry, engineering and production best practice and standards, and at least as a minimum the contract requirements. By achieving these standards on a daily basis, provide a platform for Stadler to grow across the UK.
•Fault diagnosis of failures, maintenance and all manner of repairs; provide technical know-how and know-why, rather than regular (preventive) maintenance; preparation and installation of modifications to trains and / or trams in compliance with the appropriate guidelines and statutory provisions; in addition, the post holder may develop one or more specialisations, e.g. training, component / system specialist, hotline and / or support. Must be able to act individually and set their own priorities while contributing to the Company's KPI's and values.
•Undertake fault finding and identify the associated repair required.
•Undertake and provide support across the business for all condition monitoring and manually monitored systems on the train and its interfaces.
•Perform secondary checks of the work of colleagues (four-eyes principle)
•Answer technical questions from colleagues and handle practical questions asked by the Client.
•Offer assistance and technical feedback to the RAMS / Performance Engineer and depot production teams on technical incidents, including Line of Route Technicians as required.
•Risk identification within own scope of works, assessment, provision of options to mitigate or resolve taking into account compliance with relevant legislation.
•Review and summarise faults, failures and actions taken by depot production teams as required by the RAMS / performance Engineer.
•Provide mentoring and support for other members of the production team.
•Produce high quality reports in relation to all in-service and other defects, both at system and component level, both in the business Maintenance Management System (SRMS or other) and general report writing, being either technical, non-technical or production related
•Inform, negotiate and persuade their manager(s) and fellow colleagues to lead and support the development and implementation of improved systems and ways of working across the business.
•Observe all the rules and regulations related to health and safety practices, including a tidy workplace and disposing of substances with a high environmental impact.
•The post holder determines the best possible order of tasks to be performed in consultation with the (Shift) Production Manager, as well as how to work with the equipment available and the work instructions / maintenance list, based on knowledge and experience.
•Identify and manage personal effectiveness and development, both technical and non-technical.

What are we looking for?

Knowledge
•Understanding the design, operation, and maintenance of Locomotives
•Familiarity with performance metrics related to locomotives such as operational reliability.
•Proficiency in statistical methods and performance modelling techniques to analyse data from Locomotive Systems
•Understanding of Locomotive control systems, including modern electronic and software based systems that impact performance.

Experiences
•Extensive professional engineering experience in (rolling stock) maintenance.
•Experience in trouble shooting and resolving rail performance issues, including fault diagnosis and corrective measures.
•Knowledge and experience in modern technical systems and fault finding techniques and the interaction between these, conducting and managing complex root cause investigations and reading electrical / mechanical schematics competently.

Qualifications
•Served a recognised apprenticeship to minimum City and Guilds/ BTEC level with Mechanical / Electrical / electronic bias and NVQ level 5 or to a proven similar standard.

Soft Skills
•Strong analytical abilities to interpret complex data and make informed decisions related to Locomotive performance.
•Experience of managing small teams including first line people management issues and Willing to support and guide colleagues.
•Ability to effectively negotiate and persuade stakeholders at all levels, ensuring alignment across the board to achieve successful outcomes.
•A keen eye for detail to ensure precise analysis, reporting and adherence to safety and quality standards.
