Role Overview

Lead and coordinate the smooth transition of new fleet introduction from manufacturer to operator, ensuring a safe, reliable, and high-performing railway service. Acting as the key technical interface between Stadler, the operator, and supply chain partners, the role drives reliability growth and performance improvement through structured investigations, data analysis, and the implementation of engineering solutions.

Using a project-focused approach, the post holder will manage priorities across multiple stakeholders, support the achievement of contractual KPI's including reliability, availability, KTIN, and technical incident targets, and ensure continuous improvement throughout the fleet mobilisation and early operational phases. The role requires the ability to work independently, make informed decisions, and collaborate effectively within a wider team while contributing to company objectives, values, and performance goals.

HOW YOU CAN MAKE AN IMPACT

­Support and mentor new starters with initial, on the job or enhanced training including assessments
­Lead the set-up and ongoing development of Power BI and other analytical tools for fleet reliability trends, defect patterns, and monitor performance against contractual obligations, including identifying component-level issues
­Develop and maintain dashboards and performance reports for stakeholders, presenting clear, data-driven technical insights alongside actionable improvement plans to support continuous fleet performance improvement
­Act as the SRSUK technical liaison between Stadler & Nexus engineering teams and suppliers/OEMs, ensuring effective stakeholder communication
­Support and manage technical queries and warranty claims, providing clear, timely resolutions and maintaining strong collaborative relationships to support fleet performance and contractual requirements
­Lead 8D investigations into significant failures, repeat defects, and safety-related incidents, applying structured root cause analysis techniques such as 5 Whys, FMEA, and fault tree analysis to identify underlying causes
­Ensure the timely closure of investigations with robust corrective and preventive actions, tracking the effectiveness of these actions to ensure sustained resolution and long-term reliability improvements
­Monitor and analyse fleet performance against contractual KPIs, including KTIN, availability, and technical incidents, ensure compliance with service agreements
­Identify recurring failures, systemic issues, and emerging risks across the Class 555 fleet, using data-driven insights to inform actions and contributing to the development and implementation of reliability improvement initiatives aligned with SRSUK Newcastle's Performance Strategy
­Support the delivery of reliability and availability targets under maintenance and service agreements, working collaboratively with teams to drive continuous improvement and operational performance
­Support the optimisation of maintenance regimes, including revising maintenance timescales and improving maintenance manual content
­Support the introduction and ongoing optimisation of condition-based maintenance approaches to drive improved reliability and operational performance
­Data input and analysis into electronic management systems including SRMS and others utilised by SRSUK
­Ensure all documentation associated with fleet maintenance activities are completed accurately, both paper and computer based
­Maintain own competencies, ensuring any upcoming or overdue are planned and addressed in a timely manner
­Ensuring industry, engineering and production best practice is adhered to at all times.
­Supporting with the development and implementation of standards and procedures in accordance with legal, legislative and moral obligations of Stadler
­Embed a zero harm culture within the production function
­Initiate and where authorised implement action to prevent the occurrence of product non-conformities (non-compliance), rail safety and compliance, QHSE incidents, process deficiencies or system deficiencies in a timely and thorough manner
­Responsible for adhering to safety / quality systems and support the implementation thereof by carrying out appropriate inspections / checks as required or directed including the completion of “in process checks”, “safety tours” and general condition assessments, ensuring work is done safely and to specification, to ensure a safe and reliable product
­Assist with the annual identification and quantification of risks in order to complete Risk Assessments (RA's) and the risk register
­Demonstrate a value based behaviour, setting the example and challenging anything deemed inappropriate
­Proactive and self-driven, with strong ownership of issues through to resolution. Able to work under pressure in operational railway environments
­Ensuring compliance with RSSB, ORR and RAIB standards and updates
­Quality Management system reviews and approvals

HOW YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE

­Qualification or equivalent experience in a Rail, Depot and Engineering environment
­Formal education at least to NVQ Level 4 or equivalent in an appropriate subject manner
­Electrical, network / software and mechanical time served or equivalent qualification with suitable experience
­Strong knowledge of rolling stock systems and experience with modern EMU platforms
­Proven experience leading 8D investigations and structured root cause analysis (5 Whys, FMEA, fault tree analysis)
­Proficiency in Power BI including dashboard development and trend analysis
­Advanced Excel and data handling skills; experience with fleet management or maintenance systems
­Understanding of reliability engineering principles, particularly KTIN and failure trend analysis
­Knowledge of OEM support environments and fleet service contracts
­Ability to diagnose complex, multi-system technical issues
­Flexible and willing to support colleagues with good inter-personal and communication skills
­Proven experience of working in a changing environment and steering that change
­Strong communication skills across technical and non-technical audiences; experience working with customers, suppliers, and internal engineering teams
­Ability to manage technical discussions in a contractual / service environment
­Demonstrated ability to lead complex, difficult and political discussions with key stakeholders, including with internal functional areas of the business, as well as external agencies
­Ability to understand and interpret legislation and standards relating to people and product health and safety
­Risk identification, assessment, mitigating and documenting all manners of risks to demonstrate compliance with relevant legislation and become the basis of safe systems of work
­Demonstrate a passion for continual improvement, operational excellence and end user experience
­Good level of ICT skill including Microsoft packages
­Medically fit and subject to drugs and alcohol testing both random and “for cause”
­Full UK Driving License
­May be required to work on a temporary basis at other Stadler or customer locations
