Key Responsibilities:
Step into a role where you'll oversee the on-site management of Performance Engineers, guiding them through appraisals, disciplinaries, competencies, and attendance. You'll plan and allocate work to ensure our team meets business needs and contractual requirements, while fostering their growth and development. As a mentor, you'll provide training and assessments to new starters, setting them up for success.
Represent Stadler at performance meetings, ensuring our trains meet the highest standards in safety, reliability, and presentation, all while adhering to environmental legislation. You may be part of a Management On Call roster, ready to provide support during out-of-hours periods. Your role will involve inputting and examining data in electronic management systems like SRMS and ensuring fleet maintenance documentation is completed accurately. Efficiently manage materials, ensuring correct cost coding and returns, and maintain your own competencies proactively.
You'll promote industry best practices, supporting the development and implementation of standards and procedures. Regular checks, audits, and inspections of tools, equipment, facilities, and assets will be part of your routine, promoting a zero-harm culture within the production function. Compliance with engineering, hygiene, tool, and calibration management procedures is crucial, as is preventing and reporting product non-conformities, safety incidents, and system deficiencies.
Conduct inspections and checks to ensure work is done safely and to specification, complete annual risk assessments, and maintain the risk register. Demonstrate value-based behaviour, setting an example for others and effectively challenging inappropriate values or behaviours. Interface with customer Principal Engineer and SRSUK/STAR representatives, manage the concessions status log, and monitor daily performance. Lead the Seasonal Preparedness Forum and manage the National Incident Report database, ensuring compliance with RSSB, ORR, and RAIB standards.
You'll be at the forefront of TSA systems introduction and reliability growth planning, ensuring the new fleet is fit for service. Review and approve Quality Management system documents, and lead SRMS setup, rollout, and training on site. These responsibilities outline the core activities expected in this role, ensuring a safe, reliable, and efficient operation. HOW YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE
Essential•Qualification or equivalent experience in Rail, Depot, and Management.
•NVQ Level 5 or equivalent education in a relevant subject.
•Professional registration as IEng with the Engineering Council.
•ILM Level 5 Leadership and Management certification.
•Proven team leadership and stakeholder engagement experience.
•Ability to make decisions under tight deadlines in demanding environments.
•Customer-focused attitude with a commitment to quality.
•Flexible, with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
•Experience leading change in dynamic settings.
•Understanding of contracts, reports, and investigations impacting operations.
•Skilled in complex stakeholder discussions.
•Ability to interpret health and safety legislation and standards.
•Risk assessment and mitigation expertise.
•Passion for continual improvement and operational excellence.
•Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
•Willingness to become a first aid responder and fire marshal.
•Competency in Rolling Stock maintenance standards.
•Medically fit, subject to drug and alcohol testing.
•Full UK Driving License.
•Willingness to work temporarily at other locations as needed.
Desirable
•Extensive experience in operational transport and production, with knowledge of Rolling Stock units.
•Expertise in Lean, Kaizen, 6S, and modern production techniques.
•Skilled in leading complex root cause investigations in transport and production.
•Proven ability to identify, assess, and mitigate risks, and document risk registers for compliance and safety.
•NVQ Level 6 or equivalent education in a relevant subject.
•Professional registration as CEng with the Engineering Council.
