Fleet Technical Manager

Your tasks

  • Maintain, develop and improve Metro rolling stock maintenance practices, safety and environmental performance and exploit opportunities for greater efficiencies.
  • Monitor the performance and operational costs of Metrocars to identify need for improvement action.
  • Achieving the targets set by the contract, Stadler management and industry standards
  • Where targets not fully achieved, reasons analysed and actions put in place to prevent generic reoccurrence
  • Develop and deliver the Reliability Centred Maintenance (RCM) programme for the Metro Rolling Stock, including liaison with Nexus. Control and organise a review of the outputs of such changes with recommendations and follow-up.
  • Propose, develop and implement engineering changes, deliver approvals and modifications, liaising with Nexus and other bodies as required.
  • Establish detailed projects implementation plan to minimise disruptions to Metro services whilst undertaking the improvement work.
  • Provide technical assistance where required throughout the delivery of major refurbishment programme and support its achievement.
  • Continuously develop cross functional and departmental processes. Provide engineering expertise for the supporting departments to call upon.
  • Liaise with Nexus engineers regarding planning, delivery and acceptance of new assets, Key Metro Documentation and Engineering changes.
  • Review of Railway Group Standards ensuring the Metro are kept abreast of changes in the industry; the cascading and control of such information into the engineering working practices.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation by producing, holding and issuing and maintaining technical procedures, instructions, specifications, manuals and drawings for the Fleet.
  • Monitor and develop the knowledge, competence and resources for the Technical team.
  • Assist in the Annual identification and quantification of risks in order to complete the risk register.
  • Ensure that the necessary means to manage, measure and review safety performance by staff are instituted using modern practices and processes.
  • Provide technical support to the Head of Production in improving Metrocar maintenance practices, and the Engineering Traincare Support Manager in improving Metrocar Traincare practices.
  • Undertake standby and call-out duties as required.

  • Responsible for managing those elements of the safety management system allocated to the Engineering Directorate and specifically to the role of Fleet Technical Manager for the safe operation of Metro and associated projects.
  • Responsible for carrying out duties and ensuring procedures are in place to meet legislative and company standards requirements for the Engineering Directorate's functions.
  • Responsible for compliance with environmental law and regulations and the management and implementation of environmental issues within the Technical team.
Your profile

  • Hold a relevant qualification to degree level in a Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) field.
  • Knowledge of the railway industry with particular reference to technical advancements, safety regulations, Railway Group Standards and Mainline Railway approvals framework
  • Experience of producing standards and procedures
  • Good leadership skills and willingness to develop a positive team working environment.
  • Ability to clearly articulate technical issues both verbally and in writing for understanding at executive levels and throughout the workforce, in one-to-one and group situations
  • Ability to make decisions and use initiative

  • Chartered Engineer, either IMechE or IET, with proven rolling stock and technical experience
  • Proven financial management skills, able to manage effectively within budget constraints.
  • Monitoring and auditing records.
