Your Tasks and Responsibilities
•Supervise on-site production personnel, including various technician roles and operatives.
•Oversee all site visitors, including sub-contractors.
•Allocate work according to maintenance plans (planned, corrective, overhaul, and extra work).
•Ensure personnel are competent for their tasks and support their development.
•Mentor new starters with training and assessments.
•Attend internal and external performance meetings to represent Stadler.
•Ensure trains meet safety, reliability, and presentation standards, and allocate vehicles as requested.
•Respond to in-service faults and breakdowns, and lead first response situations, including standby/on-call duties.
•Input and analyse data in electronic management systems like SRMS.
•Complete all maintenance documentation accurately, both paper and digital.
•Competence in manual point switching, panel operation, blocking, and depot isolation.
•Competence in operational procedures: shunting, crane operation, slinging, component drop, FLT operation, and cleaning.
•Competence in train presentation: duty cleans, graffiti removal, and window replacements.
•Support materials management, ensuring correct stock withdrawals and efficient returns.
•Maintain personal competencies and address any required training promptly.
•Adhere to industry, engineering, and production best practices, and support the development of standards and procedures.
•Ensure tools, equipment, and facilities are checked, audited, and inspected regularly.
•Promote a zero-harm culture within the production function.
•Ensure adherence to engineering, hygiene, tool, and calibration management procedures.
•Prevent product non-conformities and report incidents promptly and thoroughly.
•Support safety and quality systems through inspections and checks, ensuring safe and reliable work.
•Assist with risk assessments and maintaining the risk register.
•Demonstrate value-based behaviour, set an example, and challenge inappropriate behaviours.
•Perform other relevant tasks as required.
What are we looking for?
Essential•Qualification or equivalent experience in a Rail and Depot environment.
•NVQ Level 4 or equivalent in a relevant subject: Electrical, network/software, and mechanical qualifications with shop floor experience.
•ILM Level 3 in Leadership and Management.
•Proven experience in leading teams and engaging with stakeholders.
•Ability to work in demanding environments and make decisions under tight deadlines.
•Demonstrated customer-driven attitude focused on quality.
•Willingness to support colleagues with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
•Experience working in and leading change in dynamic environments.
•Ability to understand reports and recommendations impacting safe and cost-effective operations.
•Ability to contribute to complex discussions with internal and external stakeholders.
•Understanding of legislation and standards related to health and safety.
•Passion for continual improvement, operational excellence, and end-user experience.
•Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other ICT tools.
•Willingness to become a first aid at work person, fire marshal/warden.
•Demonstrated competency in Personal Track Safety (PTS) and Rolling Stock maintenance standards.
•Medically fit and subject to random and "for cause" drug and alcohol testing.
•Full UK Driving License.
•Willingness to work temporarily at other Stadler or customer locations.
Desirable
•Extensive experience in operational transport and production environments, with knowledge of Rolling Stock units.
•Knowledge and experience in advanced Lean, Kaizen, 6S, and other modern production techniques.
•Experience in conducting and contributing to complex root cause investigations.
•Strong understanding of risk and safety in the workplace, particularly within transport and production environments.
•Proven experience in identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks, and documenting risk registers to ensure compliance and safe systems of work.
•NVQ Level 5 or equivalent in a relevant subject.
